Deacon Responsibilities

DEACONS

WHY DOES NEW LIFE CHURCH DO IT?

NEW LIFE CHURCH, BORGER DESIRES TO HAVE TRUSTWORTHY MEN TO HOLD THE POSITION OF A DEACON THAT MODELS SERVANTHOOD MINISTRY AND THAT REFLECTS THE BIBLICAL MODEL OF A DEACON (1 TIMOTHY 3:13).

The Character of a Deacon

  • Moral:
    • The Spiritual man should be of unchallengeable morality
  • Mental:
    • A well-ordered life is the fruit of a well-ordered mind.  We must be ready and able to teach.  Being a Deacon gives us the opportunity to help others understand the meaning of spiritual life.  Teaching takes time, preparation, study, and prayer.
  • Personality:
    • Smile and be approachable
  • Maturity:
    • Serve not out of a sense of duty, but because of love.

What Is The Win?

  • Every team is filled with volunteers humbly serving the church and the Deacon Ministry is filled with men serving the Lord and each other, the staff, the volunteers, and the members of New Life Church, Borger.

Scriptural References:

1 Timothy 3:8-13 NKJV

  • "Likewise deacons must be reverent, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy for money, holding the mystery of the faith with pure conscience.  But let these also first be tested; then let them serve as deacons, being found blameless.  Likewise, their wives must be reverent, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.  Let deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.  For those who have served well as deacons obtain for themselves a good standing and great boldness in faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Mark 10:43-45, NIV

  • "...whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to first must be slave of all.  For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many."

1 Peter 5:2-4 NIV

  • " Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, watching over them - not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.  And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away."
